Business prospects have significantly improved for a sub-clan in Nadi following government support. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd. This initiative represents a crucial advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and fostering sustainable development.

The introduction of the excavator is expected to alleviate the financial challenges faced by the company and enhance its productivity. Tokatoka Namara has branched out into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to establish a sustainable business that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the government’s dedication to offering equal opportunities to traditional landowners and commended the local community’s initiatives in creating a thriving business. “This investment of $78,666.67, made possible through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, reflects our confidence in the capacity of rural enterprises to spur economic growth,” he stated.

He also addressed the difficulties faced by micro and small businesses in obtaining financing, reaffirming the government’s commitment to exploring innovative funding options, including small loans and crowdfunding.

He encouraged local residents to participate in upcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which seeks to introduce new financing alternatives. The excavator will significantly improve operations, leading to increased production and efficiency, ultimately benefitting the local economy.

“This event showcases the resilience and resourcefulness of our rural communities. Together, we express our commitment to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and ensuring a prosperous future for all Fijians,” Mr. Kamikamica added.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude towards the government for their support. “We established our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we managed to purchase a truck, although we previously had to hire an excavator. Thanks to the government facilitation, we navigated the process and now own this machine. Its arrival will enhance our workflow and could potentially double our production, increasing our revenue,” he noted.
