A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a positive shift in its business prospects following support from the Government. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi, marking a key advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The acquisition of the excavator is expected to relieve the company’s financial strain and boost its operational productivity. The business has expanded into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to build a sustainable model that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica reiterated the Government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s efforts in establishing a thriving business. He noted that the investment of $78,666.67, funded by the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, underscores their belief in rural enterprises as a catalyst for economic growth.

He also addressed the difficulties faced by micro and small businesses in securing financing and highlighted the Government’s efforts to seek innovative funding solutions, including small grants and crowdfunding initiatives.

Community members were encouraged to participate in upcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, aimed at developing alternative financing options.

The new excavator is anticipated to greatly improve their operations by increasing production rates and enhancing efficiency, thereby yielding greater local economic benefits.

“This event exemplifies the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians,” Mr. Kamikamica stated.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the Government for their assistance. He explained, “We established our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we acquired a truck, but we were still renting an excavator from our contractor. This year, through the cooperation facilitated by the Government, we followed the necessary processes and received this machine. The excavator will significantly ease our work and double our production, leading to increased revenue.”
