Ex-Police Chief Resigns Amid Controversy and Legal Troubles

Suspended Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has submitted his resignation. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also chairs the Constitutional Offices Commission, confirmed that Qiliho’s resignation was submitted last week. The Constitutional Offices Commission is scheduled to convene later this week. Qiliho was suspended in 2023 by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on the Prime Minister’s recommendation due to allegations of misconduct. He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for abuse of office. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Qiliho sought legal advice from his lawyers regarding his resignation.
