Ethan John, a dedicated swimmer from the Seals Swimming Club, has rapidly established his reputation at the Fiji Swimming Age National competition, which took place at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay on Sunday.
In just three years of competitive swimming, Ethan has already achieved second place in two events and earned a commendable third place in the 50m butterfly race.
Originally, Ethan had aspirations of playing rugby, but his mother deemed the sport too risky for him. This led him to embrace swimming, which has become a passion for the young athlete.
“My mom never allowed me to play rugby, but she always encouraged me to swim,” Ethan explained.
Currently attending Central High School, he faces the challenge of juggling a rigorous academic workload with his training commitments.
“Since I am in school, I have a hard time balancing these two,” he said.
During challenging times, Ethan turns to his faith for support. “Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance,” he noted.
Ethan’s enthusiasm for swimming goes beyond personal achievements; he seeks to honor his family and inspire others.
“For those contemplating swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything,” he advised.
