Justin Ho, a principal figure accused in the importation of 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine into Fiji, attempted to escape the country yesterday. Police spokesperson Wame Boutolu confirmed Hu’s actions, stating that he was seen trying to flee via yacht from the Momi area in Nadi.
Ho allegedly violated his bail conditions by leaving the Lautoka district. As part of his bail agreement, he had posted a $15,000 bond, was required to report weekly to the Lautoka Police Station, and was prohibited from departing the district. The authorities are expected to provide additional details about the incident later today, and Ho may face court proceedings as a result of this breach.
This incident marks a continuation of significant legal troubles for Ho, who had previously attempted to flee to Wallis and Futuna after the original methamphetamine shipment was detected in January 2024. His previous actions resulted in his apprehension near Taveuni.
Moreover, the ongoing judicial proceedings surrounding drug importation in Fiji emphasize the commitment of law enforcement to tackle drug trafficking effectively. Recent high-profile cases have led to a greater crackdown on such activities, with significant drug busts capturing national attention and leading to increased arrests. The high court has recognized the complexities of the drug-related cases, prioritizing them for trial to ensure the efficient delivery of justice.
The proactive measures taken by the authorities reflect a hope for improved public safety, demonstrating the legal system’s dedication to addressing drug crimes and ensuring that those involved face appropriate legal consequences.
