Entrepreneurs Share Their Inspiring Journeys on World MSME Day

World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27th, focusing on the vital role MSMEs play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. This year’s theme was “Small Business, Big Change,” prompting insights from some members of the Building at Sunset community regarding their inspirations for embracing entrepreneurship.

Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business featuring two properties: a two-bedroom unit in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night, and a five-bedroom property in Pacific Harbour available for $750 per night. Originally motivated by the desire to stay home with her children while contributing financially, Fina’s focus has since shifted toward achieving financial freedom, as she prepares to expand her business from a Facebook page to a dedicated website.

Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, launched her cleaning business amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Her decision was driven by interest from various businesses needing cleaning services. Currently serving the Suva-Nausori corridor, she aims to grow her operations into additional towns. Sonam’s entrepreneurial journey is inspired by her personal goals and the empowerment she perceives from observing the success of other women in business.

Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her passion for fitness during high school and has dedicated herself to promoting health and wellness ever since. With over ten years of experience and multiple certifications in various fitness disciplines, Veniana established Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness to create an inclusive space for individuals to pursue their fitness goals and improve their quality of life.

Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of the architectural design firm Atelier 153, focuses on sustainability and innovation within the construction industry. Her venture, the Innovation in Construction Hub, aims to harness local expertise to develop solutions for Fiji’s infrastructural challenges, promoting collaboration among diverse skill sets to inspire new projects.
