The Fiji Police Force is calling on the community to collaborate in ensuring a safe environment during the Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games, scheduled to take place at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on November 28-29.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted that community policing officers are actively working with school representatives to guarantee the safety of visiting schools. He emphasized the crucial role of parents, guardians, and teachers in safeguarding children and advised them to remain vigilant against negative influences.
“Open communication with your children is essential. They are impressionable and can be easily swayed by peer pressure, which might lead to regrettable choices,” ACP Driu stated. He encouraged parents to schedule regular check-ins with their children to ensure they are aware of their whereabouts and activities. He also suggested establishing contact with their friends’ parents and identifying a safe meeting spot for emergencies.
Driu reassured the public that comprehensive security measures will be implemented around the event venue and in nearby areas, including traffic controls. He reminded potential wrongdoers to stay away from the event, reinforcing a zero-tolerance approach to crime during the games.
Motorists are advised to drive cautiously in school zones and near the event venue. Additionally, ACP Driu urged parents to discuss the potential risks associated with reckless behavior with their children, preparing them for any eventualities.
The Fiji Police Force wishes all participants a successful and enjoyable event, reinforcing the spirit of community and safety.
As the community comes together for this exciting event, it reflects a shared commitment to ensuring a positive and secure atmosphere for the young athletes. Engaging in meaningful conversations with children about safety and responsibility can greatly enhance their experience at the games.
