Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has announced that employees who participate in the upcoming industrial action will have their wages and salaries withheld for the duration of the strike. This notification was communicated through a circular to staff on February 10, as reported by The Fiji Times.

In the circular, CEO Fatiaki Gibson outlined that members of the CETWUF union intending to participate must notify the General Manager of Human Resources (GMHR) via email no later than 4:00 PM on February 13, 2026. Those choosing to strike must also return all EFL-provided office and company vehicle keys to their respective managers by the same deadline.

Furthermore, Gibson stated, “Your wages and salaries will be withheld during the strike period,” emphasizing that employees deemed a potential risk to EFL’s operations or critical infrastructure would be denied access to EFL premises post-deadline until further notice. Additionally, all Annual Leave applications from striking employees will be paused during this period.

While acknowledging the right of employees to make lawful decisions regarding their participation in the strike, Gibson underscored EFL’s commitment to preserving its operations and infrastructure. The company aims to maintain a professional and safe working environment for all while urging employees to act in a lawful and respectful manner that aligns with company policies.

The situation is a pivotal moment for EFL as it navigates the challenges of industrial action, and how it addresses employee concerns may set the tone for future labor relations. The management encourages direct communication for any clarifications regarding the strike and its implications. As the potential strike date approaches, the focus remains on maintaining operational integrity while respecting employee rights.
