Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has reached a significant milestone in its negotiations for the 2025 Log of Claims with the Fiji Electricity Workers Association (FEWA), successfully concluding discussions that promise enhanced employment benefits for its employees. This agreement, which is set to take effect from January 1, 2026, comes after months of negotiations that culminated in a preliminary consensus in December 2025.
EFL confirmed that the negotiations with FEWA, which represents various categories of staff including tradespeople, staff, and senior staff, have resulted in a variety of improved employment conditions. These enhancements include a five percent increase in base salaries and allowances, as well as additional contributions from employers to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) that are based on years of service. Furthermore, employees will now be able to carry forward unused sick leave from the previous two years.
A notable addition to the agreement is the introduction of 24-hour personal accident insurance coverage for tradespersons, particularly live-line linespersons, alongside other negotiated benefits aimed at better protecting workers.
EFL emphasized that the new employer contributions to the FNPF represent a significant long-term advantage, aimed at enhancing workers’ retirement savings and overall financial security. The terms of this comprehensive agreement were formally documented in a Memorandum of Agreement signed on January 30, 2026, ensuring that employees would start receiving their new entitlements in the following pay cycles.
Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson commented on the collaborative nature of the negotiations, highlighting the strong, respectful working relationship established between EFL and FEWA. This partnership is built on principles of transparency, trust, and adherence to collective bargaining processes.
While negotiations with the Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) are still ongoing, the successful conclusion with FEWA underscores EFL’s commitment to enhancing employee conditions and fostering a supportive work environment, reflecting a hopeful outlook for future negotiations as well.
