Shyna Lata, a 21-year-old from Labasa, has taken a stand against drug use and unemployment, drawing from her experiences witnessing their detrimental effects on families in Narere, Nasinu. Lata is passionate about raising awareness of how education can help solve issues related to drug abuse and youth unemployment.

Supported by Playland Fantasy Amusement Rides, she will compete among seven women for the 2024 Miss Nasinu Festival crown. Lata highlighted the necessity for government programs aimed at aiding young people, especially those facing homelessness or drug dependency.

“I come from a community that is labeled a red zone, and I’ve seen that many of our youths are school dropouts or involved with drugs,” she stated. The week-long festival will wrap up on Saturday at the Valelevu grounds.
