Linda Raratabu has embraced her new role as the Deputy Head Girl of Adi Cakobau School, a challenge she is ready to tackle after her recent appointment. Speaking during her induction, Raratabu shared reflections on her path, filled with struggles to balance academic demands and parental expectations since she began at the all-girls institution as a Year 9 student in 2020.

Raratabu attributes her growing confidence to her faith in God, expressing a deep commitment to fostering spiritual growth among her peers. She emphasizes that this spiritual foundation is crucial for success across all areas of study. “I believe there are endless opportunities to pursue, but for now, my focus is on fostering spiritual growth,” she stated.

Recognizing the responsibilities tied to her leadership position, Raratabu acknowledges that effective leadership involves showing respect to others and tackling problems with a constructive approach. Balancing her schoolwork alongside her leadership duties will indeed be a test, but she is confident that her faith will provide the necessary strength to navigate these challenges.

Her vision as Deputy Head Girl includes encouraging students to reconnect with their faith amid societal challenges. “A strong sense of self-worth, rooted in faith, will help us persevere,” she said, while expressing her commitment to creating a supportive environment for her peers, allowing them to express themselves freely, especially during difficult times.

In her words of thanks, Raratabu highlighted the significant influence of her parents, recognizing them for their mentorship in teaching her the values of service and dignity.

This new leadership role is part of a broader trend observed across schools in Fiji, where young leaders are increasingly taking on responsibilities with an understanding of their ability to positively impact their communities. Similar stories from other young leaders at various schools showcase the importance of mentorship, faith, and determination in navigating their educational journeys.

As Raratabu steps into this role, she stands as a testament to the resilience of youth in Fiji, illustrating that with determination and a strong support network, students can achieve considerable success and encourage others to do the same.
