The Fiji Police Force inaugurated its Blue Light Camp at Lautoka Delana Primary School, launching a week-long youth development initiative for students spanning from Rakiraki to Lautoka. The event was presided over by Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, who motivated the participating students to leverage this opportunity to enhance their life skills and leadership abilities.

This year’s program features facilitators from New Zealand’s Blue Light and the Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding, presenting a series of workshops aimed at personal growth, civic duty, and community involvement. SSP Vaisewa highlighted the significance of forming strong relationships between law enforcement and the youth, asserting that building mutual trust is essential for fostering a safer future.

The Blue Light initiative aims to empower young people to recognize their potential and showcase how they can positively impact their communities. This mirrors previous efforts such as the recent training of 47 students from Nadi, who completed a similar program designed to promote leadership and skill development among the youth. These initiatives, which are a collaboration between police and Blue Light, focus on minimizing the risk of young people becoming involved in criminal activities while enhancing community relations.

By fostering a culture of leadership and responsibility among the youth, these programs not only empower the next generation but also contribute to shaping a community that is more resilient against crime and social issues. Such proactive engagements highlight hope for a brighter future as these young leaders learn to navigate challenges and influence their peers positively.
