Empowering Youth and Preserving Culture: The FESTPAC Mission

Renowned advocate for youth development in Fiji and the Pacific, Broderick Mervyn, has emphasized the critical need for meticulous preparation for the upcoming Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FESTPAC).

In a landmark meeting with officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, along with the Permanent Secretary, Mervyn underscored the importance of strategic planning and robust funding. He highlighted several pivotal themes, including sustainable tourism, cultural heritage, and youth development.

“The Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture is not merely an event; it is an opportunity for Fiji to present its cultural richness and the talents of its youth on the international stage. It also highlights key themes that resonate among Pacific leaders, such as sustainable tourism, cultural heritage, and youth development,” Mervyn expressed.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on the need for collaborating organizations to not only participate in these initiatives but also ensure the allocation of dedicated funds to support these projects.

“For these collaborations to be effective and sustainable, it is imperative that organizations like Pacific Community (SPC) and South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) commit specific funds towards the implementation of these initiatives.”

“This enforcement of allocated funds would ensure the successful execution of the proposed projects and programs.”

Mervyn also called for the inclusion of youth from the island of Rotuma, highlighting their unique cultural contributions.

“Rotuma’s cultural heritage is a vital part of Fiji’s identity. We must ensure that Rotuman youth are given opportunities to participate, showcase their talents, and gain recognition.”
