The government has taken a significant step towards empowering the youth of Uluiloli Village in Tailevu by presenting them with brush cutters, a crucial initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in rural areas. This program is designed to support young people in starting their own businesses and creating income-generating opportunities. The youths, contracted by China Railway Group, are providing grass-cutting services across the Rewa Division and reportedly earn upwards of $4,000 every two weeks.
Sakiasi Ditoka, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, highlighted that equipping these young entrepreneurs with tools will greatly enhance their ability to grow their businesses. He articulated, “This is real empowerment, supporting youth entrepreneurship and fostering economic resilience in our rural communities.”
This initiative is part of a larger government strategy to stimulate entrepreneurship in rural regions, similar to recent efforts in Nadi, where a sub-clan received a new excavator to boost productivity for their local enterprise. Such actions are intended to ease financial constraints and foster growth for small businesses, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to rural development.
By investing in the youth of Uluiloli Village, the government is not just providing immediate economic empowerment but also laying the groundwork for sustainable future growth in rural areas. This proactive support is essential for building robust local economies and improving the quality of life for residents.
The trend of bolstering government support for rural entrepreneurship paints a hopeful picture for financial independence and community resilience throughout Fiji, creating optimism for young entrepreneurs eager to make a difference in their communities.
