Reverend Etuate Lasaro delivered an inspiring message to the students of Nakorosule District School in Naitasiri, urging them to “go beyond yourself” during the school’s annual awards ceremony. With a history of over 60 years of educating the children of Naitasiri, Nakorosule has produced notable alumni, including distinguished academic and senator Dr. Asesela Ravuvu.

The event, which gathered the Waimaro community, celebrated the accomplishments of students and marked the end of Mr. Lasaro’s five-year service in the vanua, as he prepares for a new role as the minister for the Methodist Church’s Nadera circuit.

In his address, Mr. Lasaro emphasized that education transcends traditional learning; it is an essential journey that fosters both intellectual and spiritual growth. He quoted U.S. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, stating that education enriches individuals’ lives. He reminded parents about their critical role in nurturing their children’s potential, regardless of their academic achievements, and encouraged them to express love and appreciation through special gestures.

Mr. Lasaro also highlighted the importance of prioritizing family over other commitments and stressed that a strong foundation of Christian values within the home is essential. He urged parents to embrace their responsibility in guiding their children and addressing issues like youth substance abuse and teenage pregnancy, which have emerged in parts of Naitasiri.

Dr. Ilisapeci Lasaro reminded students to focus on their educational pursuits, sharing a personal story of perseverance from her sister, who became a successful lawyer despite not receiving awards in school. This reinforced the message that hard work is key to achieving good outcomes.

Among the attendees, Ratu Isoa Vuniamatana made history as the first male student from Nakorosule to win the DUX award. He expressed his gratitude towards his teachers and parents, wishing his fellow graduates success as they transition to secondary school.

This event not only recognized the achievements of students but also fostered a sense of community and hope for the future, embodying the spirit of education as a transformative journey.

In summary, this story presents a hopeful outlook on education, emphasizing the importance of parental support, community involvement, and the belief that every child’s potential can be realized through dedication and care.
