The grassroots coaching course, a collaborative effort between the Fiji Football Association and the Royal Netherlands Football Association, commenced at the Fiji Football National Academy in Ba on Monday.
This initiative aims to train 33 coaches, including two from Tuvalu, with an emphasis on improving football skills among young girls at the grassroots level.
Mohammed Yusuf, the chief executive of Fiji FA, expressed his appreciation for the Netherlands FA’s partnership in launching this program. He underscored the significance of developing coaches capable of fostering young talent.
“This collaboration showcases the Netherlands FA’s dedication to assisting smaller nations like Fiji in advancing their football development,” Yusuf stated.
The attendance of the secretary general of the Netherlands FA in Fiji signals a solid partnership between the two football associations.
“Since 2016, our focus has been on youth development, creating a robust framework for nurturing young athletes. Under the leadership of our technical director Timo Jankowski, Fiji FA has rolled out a comprehensive program that has caught the attention of our government.
“We have reached out to remote islands to ensure that young players receive proper mentorship and training.”
Fiji FA takes pride in the progress achieved in youth development and acknowledges the support from sponsors.
Yusuf expressed his gratitude to the Netherlands team for their involvement and hopes they will enjoy their stay in Fiji, particularly during the Fiji Day festivities. He also mentioned the opportunity for the team to experience traditional Fijian cooking during their time there.
