Michaelle Fong, the head girl at St Anne’s Primary School and this year’s dux, delivered an inspiring speech during the school’s recent prize-giving ceremony. She emphasized the importance of using one’s experiences to support others rather than solely focusing on personal achievements.
In her speech, Fong expressed a sense of humility and gratitude on her final day at the school, remarking, “This day is a reminder of how far we have come, not just as individuals but as a community that has supported and guided each other every step of the way.” She also reached out to younger students, urging them to be kind and to recognize their vast potential.
“Success is not defined by perfection but by perseverance and the willingness to learn,” she advised. She encouraged students to embrace every learning opportunity and to trust that their experiences, no matter how small, play a crucial role in shaping their future.
Fong made sure to thank the teachers and parents for their support throughout her educational journey. She expressed deep appreciation to her educators, affirming that their guidance would stay with them for life. She also recognized the significance of parental support, highlighting how it inspired her and her peers to pursue their dreams.
As she and her fellow graduates prepare for their next chapters, Fong reminded them to carry forward values of humility and gratitude, stating, “We are not defined by what we have achieved but how we use our experiences to help and support others.”
Fong’s achievements during the event included several awards: the Year 8 first place award, the Religion award, the highest marks in English and Social Science, the leadership award, and, of course, the dux award. Her message and accomplishments serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for her peers, emphasizing the power of determination, kindness, and community spirit.
This kind of nurturing environment in educational institutions fosters growth, allowing students to emerge not just as learners but as compassionate individuals ready to make a positive impact in their communities.
