Loraini Bula, a 58-year-old entrepreneur from Nasolo in Ba, epitomizes the transformative power of determination, cultural pride, and community support through her enterprise, Loraini’s Creations. As a dedicated mother of five grown daughters, Bula expertly balances her family responsibilities with her entrepreneurial ambitions, crafting a business that specializes in hand-printed sarongs that celebrate the rich heritage of Fijian and Pacific Island cultures.

In recent years, Bula has expanded her offerings to include a diverse selection of products such as scented soaps, body oils, and various plants and flowers from her nursery. Her commitment to using locally sourced, natural ingredients showcases not only her artistic talent but also her dedication to preserving Fiji’s natural beauty.

A pivotal turning point in Bula’s journey occurred when she joined the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a program facilitated by the US Embassy in Fiji, which started in March 2024. This seven-month program provided her with crucial skills in essential areas such as pricing and marketing, areas she found challenging in the past. Reflecting on her growth, Bula stated, “I used to just set prices randomly, not realizing the impact it would have on my business. Now, I understand the importance of pricing, customer satisfaction, and aligning with market standards.”

Bula’s entrepreneurial journey is deeply rooted in her desire to provide for her family. She takes great pride in the educational accomplishments of her daughters, two of whom are now doctors, symbolizing her sacrifices and hard work. Looking to the future, Bula is optimistic about expanding her product line to meet increasing customer demand, fully crediting the AWE program for empowering her with business acumen and confidence.

Her story serves as an inspiring beacon for women in her community, encouraging them to pursue their own entrepreneurial paths. “Don’t be afraid to start your own business,” she advises. “We don’t need to depend on others; we can provide for ourselves. If you have the drive, go for it.”

Loraini Bula’s narrative exemplifies how education, community support, and self-belief transform not just individual businesses but entire communities. As she continues to grow her enterprise, her commitment to craft and culture resonates as a hopeful message that with hard work and the right resources, women can create lasting change in their lives and those of others.

In summary, Loraini Bula’s journey underscores the potential of entrepreneurship to uplift communities, and her inspiring story serves as a motivating example for aspiring women business owners everywhere.
