A thriving initiative is being led by the Waibau Women’s Club, founded in 2019, to support the wellbeing of women and girls in the Waibau community. The club focuses on utilizing communal land to enhance the living conditions of families, particularly through sustainable farming practices.

The club comprises 11 dedicated members who actively cultivate their allocated plots, growing nutritious crops such as taro, sweet potatoes, cassava, and ginger. They have also set a goal to cultivate yaqona, as they anticipate being able to harvest it within the next two years.

In addition to food crops, the women’s group is committed to fostering a supportive network within the community, and they have received vital support and recognition from the Ministry of Forestry and other governmental bodies. Their consistent farming activities are not only helping to provide food for their families but also promoting economic independence through the sale of their produce.

As the women navigate challenges like adverse weather conditions, they remain resilient, emphasizing the importance of their communal efforts and planning. The initiative is a reminder of the power of community action in fostering sustainable living and improving family life.

With continued support and collaboration with governmental organizations, the Waibau Women’s Club aims to further enhance the quality of life for women and families in their community. This journey of empowerment showcases the strength and determination of women working together toward a prosperous future.
