The Waibau Women’s Club, established in 2019 and officially registered, is a prominent community organization focused on empowering women and girls in the Waibau area. According to Makereta Nofoimuli, a representative of the club, their efforts center around utilizing land resources effectively to enhance the living standards of families in the community.

The club comprises 11 members dedicated to cultivating various crops on their designated plots of land. They have established productive gardens that not only provide food for their families but also foster a sense of camaraderie among the members and their families.

Utilizing land effectively is a crucial focus for these women, as they strive to improve their agricultural output. They are currently growing crops such as taro, cassava, sweet potatoes, and ginger, indicating their commitment to sustainable farming. Additionally, they are planning to cultivate yaqona, a traditional herb, within the next couple of years, enhancing their agricultural diversity.

The members of the club acknowledge the valuable support from the Ministry of Forestry, which has played a role in their agricultural development initiatives. They work diligently every Monday to ensure their land is maintained and produce is harvested efficiently.

Despite challenges such as changing weather conditions affecting crop yields, the club remains optimistic about improving their circumstances through teamwork and effective resource management. They encourage each other to stay motivated and embrace opportunities for collaboration and assistance from local authorities to further boost their families’ well-being.

In summary, the Waibau Women’s Club is a testament to the strength and resilience of women in cultivating not only crops but also community spirit and support among one another, highlighting the importance of agricultural efforts in improving lives. Their ongoing commitment to self-sufficiency and sustainability serves as an inspiring model for others in the region, emphasizing hope and progress in challenging times.
