The Waibau Women’s Club has been making strides in promoting agricultural practices and improving the lives of families in the Waibau community since its establishment in 2019. Under the leadership of Makereta Nofoimuli, members of this women’s group are actively working to leverage their land for better food production, aiming to ensure that household nutrition is enhanced on a daily basis.

The club consists of 11 active members who cultivate several types of crops on their allotted parcels of land. They are not only fostering local food production but also encouraging collaboration among families, consistently providing assistance to each other in managing their agricultural tasks.

Currently, the members are successfully growing a variety of crops such as dalo (taro), tavioka (cassava), kumala (sweet potato), and ginger, and have also allocated portions of their fields to grow yaqona (kava), which they hope to harvest in two years. The members emphasize the importance of efficient land use, stating that their lands can yield substantial produce that contributes to their families’ livelihoods.

Moreover, the women are recognized for their hard work and commitment, receiving support from the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agriculture, which has been instrumental in sustaining their initiatives. They gather every Monday and are often seen working diligently in their fields, showcasing the value of community support in achieving their agricultural goals.

Despite facing challenges from changing weather conditions, the club members remain optimistic about their endeavors. They understand that while adjustments are needed based on climate fluctuations, their dedication to improving local agriculture will ultimately lead to the enrichment of their families’ lives.

This initiative not only uplifts these women and their families but also serves as an empowering model for community-driven progress in agricultural practices. With continued support and dedication, the Waibau Women’s Club is well on its way to making a lasting impact.

In summary, the efforts of the Waibau Women’s Club highlight the transformative power of community collaboration in agriculture, offering hope for sustainable development while also addressing nutrition and family welfare in the region.
