Women from the villages of Nasoki, Vadra, Keteira, and Cakova in Moala are embracing new prospects through an impactful financial literacy and entrepreneurship program. This initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The program’s primary objective is to empower women with essential skills in bookkeeping, marketing, branding, inventory management, and savings strategies. Participants engage in group discussions that foster collaboration and allow them to share experiences and insights, enhancing their learning journey.
Akemi Nagahara, a JICA volunteer, emphasized the program’s significance, stating that financial literacy and proficient business management are critical to developing sustainable livelihoods. This initiative enables women to take charge of their financial destinies, subsequently uplifting their quality of life and that of their families.
One participant, Jiajiana Vulaono from Cakova village, shared her transformation, indicating that she previously faced challenges when initiating a small business. “Now, I feel confident in keeping records and planning ahead. This knowledge will change how I support my family,” she expressed.
Moreover, participants were introduced to crucial social welfare services, including support programs and resources for assistance. The initiative also included awareness sessions led by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Fiji Police, and the Department of Children under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection.
This program aligns with the government’s continuous efforts to promote gender equality, empower women within the community, and mitigate poverty. These initiatives are not only vital for individual participants but also serve to strengthen the fabric of the community as a whole, fostering a brighter future for all.
In summary, this program marks a significant step toward empowering women in Moala, equipping them with the tools necessary to forge their paths to financial stability and independence, ultimately nurturing healthier families and communities.
