Over 70 women leaders from various sectors gathered for a Women in Corporate Leadership breakfast on Thursday, where they had the opportunity to meet Antonia Watson, the chief executive officer of ANZ New Zealand. The event was organized by SALT Incorporated Limited, a consultancy firm based in Suva, and revolved around the theme “Evolution of Leaders.” Ms. Watson delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of having clear values to navigate challenges in leadership roles.
Ana Laqeretabua, principal of SALT Inc, expressed her gratitude for Ms. Watson’s presence, stating, “We value her insight and her wisdom which has provided some great tools for all of us as we journey through the different challenges we face as women leaders.” Watson encouraged attendees to embrace authenticity, noting the appreciation for leaders who are relatable and competent in their roles.
Rabih Yazbek, country head of ANZ Fiji, mentioned that bringing senior executives to Fiji is a vital part of ANZ’s engagement with the community. “As part of a global network, we’re uniquely positioned to bring executives like Antonia here to inspire and support aspiring and future business leaders of Fiji,” he said. He noted the importance of international executives sharing their experiences and advice with local communities.
Yazbek highlighted the significance of Watson’s visit in fostering the strong relationship between ANZ Fiji and New Zealand. “Antonia coming here to meet with our customers, regulators, and stakeholders demonstrates the importance of the role ANZ plays in the Pacific. ANZ operates in 29 countries, and this visit has shown that Fiji is seen as a strong part of the ANZ international network.”
Ms. Watson arrived in Suva on Wednesday, following a two-day visit to Apia, Samoa.
