Seventeen women executives have begun participating in the third Fiji Senior Women’s Leadership Programme (FSEWLP), which was launched yesterday at the Holiday Inn, organized by the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA). This initiative aims to empower women in executive roles by enhancing their knowledge about business operations, building networks, and developing confidence in governance and professional branding.

Daljeet Maharaj, Executive Director of FICA, emphasized that this program is part of a broader women in leadership series dating back to 2019. Over the years, FICA has collaborated with the Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI) from the Asian Development Bank to bolster female leadership in various sectors beyond just accounting and finance.

This cohort consists of 17 participants, of which only two are FICA members, showcasing a diverse representation from sectors like healthcare, energy, and NGOs. Maharaj expressed optimism regarding the potential successes of each participant and the positive impact these programs can have across different fields.

The program facilitator, Akanisi Nabalarua, expressed her enthusiasm for guiding participants on their leadership journeys, underlining the importance of learning from shared experiences. The four-day training will be held over two weeks on July 16-17 and July 23-24.

Previous initiatives, including earlier cohorts that successfully graduated 25 women, reflect a growing commitment to improving women’s representation in leadership roles across Fiji. Efforts from FICA and supportive measures from the government, such as grant funding to reduce registration fees, are contributing positively towards achieving gender equality within the corporate landscape.

As the initiative progresses, there is hope that women participating in such leadership programs will inspire more inclusive and diverse professional environments, benefitting Fiji’s overall corporate governance and economic growth. There is a shared vision of paving the way for future generations of women to ascend in leadership roles, thus enhancing the contributions of women in driving innovation and success across various sectors.
