More than 30 women from the Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Kadavu are set to gain invaluable skills through a newly launched capacity-building program aimed at fostering women empowerment, effective leadership, and improved communication. The initiative was officially inaugurated at the GCC lounge in Suva yesterday.

Salote Nawalowalo, the president of Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Kadavu, highlighted that this two-day program will empower and equip women leaders from the nine districts of Kadavu. She pointed out the challenges women often encounter in leadership roles, noting that their contributions and decisions are frequently undervalued, which can undermine their confidence.

“Women tend to face difficulties at the height of their leadership roles,” Ms. Nawalowalo stated, emphasizing the need for better communication within groups. She identified ineffective communication between leaders and their members as a significant factor hindering productivity. Many crucial decisions made in meetings do not reach the members due to a lack of proper communication strategies.

The decision to launch this training program emerged from discussions at the last AGM, where it was recognized that some members were not fully engaging in their leadership roles. Ms. Nawalowalo recalled that the last similar program was held in 2017, and many women who participated then have passed away, highlighting the program’s renewed urgency.

In her remarks, she encouraged women to unite, cultivate an empowering environment, and support each other amidst negativity. “Women make up half of the population. Use that and extend a helping hand to men,” she urged, encouraging solidarity and mutual support among women.

Ms. Nawalowalo called on all Soqosoqo Vakamarama groups across the nation to utilize available funding to participate in training programs that can enhance their skills and confidence in leadership.

This initiative signifies a vital step forward in promoting women’s leadership and communication, paving the way for more inclusive and productive communities.

In summary, this program not only focuses on building skills but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration and positivity among women, potentially leading to a more empowered future for all participants. The emphasis on overcoming challenges through unity fosters hope and a strong message of empowerment for women in leadership.
