Running for Change: Join the Movement this Women's Day!

Empowering Women: Join the IWD Running Revolution!

The Suva Marathon Club is preparing for its annual International Women’s Day (IWD) running event set for March 8, emphasizing the themes of gender equality and women’s empowerment. This year, the event is not just about running but also about inspiring participants to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Gina Houng Lee, a seasoned runner and body pump instructor at Zenergy Fitness Studio, highlights the importance of this event as a celebration of women’s rights. She appreciates the community atmosphere that the IWD event fosters, where runners can support each other’s personal goals. “I love running in a group, especially on the seawall,” she stated, underscoring the camaraderie built during these runs.

The event will include a 10-kilometer race beginning at 6 a.m. and a 5-kilometer race at 6:30 a.m., with organizers expecting between 100 to 150 participants, including walkers who are encouraged to join the inclusive environment. Club president Nancy Simpson noted that this year’s IWD run aligns with the global theme of promoting health and well-being for women.

As interest in health and fitness grows among women in Fiji, the IWD event is positioned to enhance resilience and empowerment within the community. Participants are looking forward to both the exhilaration of the race and a rewarding coffee treat afterward, reinforcing a culture of motivation and accomplishment.

Beyond the IWD event, the Suva Marathon Club continues to offer monthly runs and has additional events planned, such as the Namosi Marathon Challenge in June and the Suva Marathon in September. These initiatives aim to further promote fitness and empower women in various facets of life.

This event transcends being merely a race; it symbolizes a collective movement to affirm that women can excel in all areas, both on the track and off, fostering a sense of hope and community through active engagement.
