KPMG Fiji is set to launch a two-day tech insight program for women, kicking off tomorrow in Suva. This initiative builds on the success of last year’s “IT’s Her Future” program, which aimed to introduce female university students to careers in technology, a sector where they remain under-represented.
Lisa Apted, managing partner of KPMG Fiji, announced that this year’s program will welcome 15 participants, an increase from the 13 women who participated last year, with aspirations that some may join as graduates in 2026. The program is designed to not only provide insights into technology roles within KPMG but also to inspire and empower women to consider careers that may have previously felt unattainable.
The program will feature sessions that cover a wide array of topics, including understanding KPMG’s technological approach, finding personal purpose in technology, and honing interview skills. Participants will also have the chance to hear from successful women in KPMG’s technology sectors, benefiting from their mentorship and guidance.
Apted expressed the importance of fostering a diverse tech workforce, noting that women constitute only 25% of technical roles. “Fiji has many young, tech-savvy women, and tapping into this talent pool is essential for businesses like KPMG,” she stated. The goal of “IT’s Her Future” is to combat gender disparity within the tech industry and to create a sustainable pipeline of skilled talent for the future.
Additionally, upon completing the program, participants will have the opportunity to interview for graduate positions within KPMG Fiji’s various technology teams, reinforcing the program’s commitment to not just education, but also employment opportunity in the tech field.
This initiative reflects a positive step towards addressing gender disparities in technology, promoting inclusion, and ultimately shaping a more balanced and equitable workforce. Each participant represents not just an individual potential but a broader movement towards a future where women can thrive in technology-related careers.
