The Minister of Fisheries, Alitia Bainivalu, recently provided a fiberglass fishing boat and its registration certificate to the local women’s group known as Nasomo Ra Marama in Somosomo, Taveuni. This initiative aims to support women in boosting their business in fish collection, particularly for women engaged in local farming.
During the donation event held on Saturday, the minister praised the government’s commitment to enhancing livelihood opportunities for women in the community. Additionally, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) was acknowledged for its significant contributions to local initiatives. Claude Prevost, a business operator in Taveuni’s fishing sector, noted that the fishing business is thriving, providing economic benefits and job opportunities for locals.
Minister Bainivalu encouraged women to safeguard government assets to support their fishing endeavors.
