The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has increased its support for women’s sports by providing a substantial sponsorship of $20,000 to the Suva Women’s Volleyball team as they gear up for the Pacific Mini Games. The formal handover of the funding was conducted by FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali, aimed at bolstering both the indoor and beach volleyball teams.
Ali remarked on the growing demand for financial assistance from national sporting federations over the past decade, as they face challenges in covering essential expenses like training equipment and competition levies. The FWCC’s continued backing is a testament to its mission of promoting gender equality and empowering women in various sectors, particularly in sports.
Semaima Lagilagi, Vice President of the Suva Volleyball Association, expressed gratitude for the long-standing partnership with FWCC, which has significantly benefited women athletes, facilitating their participation in regional championships. This collaboration has not only enabled athletes to train effectively but also fosters national pride.
As the Pacific Mini Games approach, set to take place in Palau from June 29 to July 9, the commitment from organizations like FWCC underscores the importance of investing in women’s sports. Such initiatives are vital in creating opportunities for female athletes and promoting societal change towards gender equality in Fiji.
The partnership between FWCC and Suva Volleyball Association exemplifies how sustained support can uplift women’s roles in sports and pave the way for future generations to excel.
