Empowering Women in Nadogo: A Community’s Rise

Spread the love

In the rural community of Kavewa, Nadogo in Macuata, women are coming together to tackle various societal challenges through the Cagimaiwai Women’s Club. According to Talei Silibaravi, a prominent youth leader, the women of Kavewa are enthusiastically taking on their roles, working to improve the mindset and outlook toward development in their area.

Currently, approximately 30 women aged between their 20s and 70s are involved in this initiative, which has gained momentum over the years, particularly since its formal organization in 2011. The group has been instrumental in supporting their local community, undertaking various projects aimed at enhancing their livelihoods.

One notable success is the establishment of a biogas system with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This initiative, introduced in 2021, enabled the purchase of 24 ‘Home Biogas’ units, fostering sustainability and providing clean energy sources to families.

Moreover, the women are actively working on constructing a solar freezer facility. This project is designed to assist community members in preserving fish more effectively, addressing a critical need in this fishing community where overfishing and disappointing sales occur often.

As they embark on these activities, the women are also focusing on environmental conservation, collaborating with the World Wildlife Fund to protect native species and ecosystems. They not only address their household needs but also push forward the development of communal infrastructure, like roads and waste management efforts.

The support from local leaders and the involvement of the younger generation in the Cagimaiwai Women’s Club showcases the commitment to enhancing community engagement and cooperation. This proactive approach highlights the collective efforts of the women to create a positive impact in their community.

Overall, the achievements and aspirations of the Cagimaiwai Women’s Club are commendable. It reflects a strong determination to facilitate change and improve the quality of life for everyone in Kavewa, demonstrating the power of community solidarity and innovative thinking in overcoming challenges.
