Titilia Delaivuna Naqila, the Human Resources Manager at Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa, shares her inspiring journey of balancing the demanding roles of being a mother, wife, and professional. With more than a decade of experience in human resources, Naqila highlights the unique challenges faced by women in management, particularly the struggle with self-doubt.

Reflecting on her path, Naqila mentions that overcoming self-doubt was a significant barrier in her career. “The only thing standing between me and my goals was my mindset,” she explains. By concentrating on incremental progress and viewing failure as a learning opportunity, she strengthened her self-confidence and effectively silenced her doubts. Her empowering mindset ultimately led to her promotion to HR Manager in October 2023, where she now manages three resorts and addresses various responsibilities, including labor inquiries and hotel licensing.

Naqila attributes her advancement to her former manager, Ashyana Bi, who recognized her potential and played a pivotal role in her professional development. Throughout her dynamic career, she has adapted to the evolving needs of the tourism industry, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her current position, Naqila finds joy in positively impacting employee well-being, underscoring HR’s critical role in fostering both personal and organizational wellness. She encourages aspiring women in the hospitality sector to trust in their capabilities and be true to themselves, asserting that confidence is cultivated through experience and taking well-considered risks.

Influenced by her mother, who reinforced values of resilience and compassion, Naqila emphasizes the importance of empathy and respect in her interactions. She advocates for maintaining a healthy work-life balance, stressing that active family involvement is vital for mothers striving for career success.

Naqila’s journey resonates with others in the hospitality sector, including Irinieta Naqolo, an Assistant Manager at Sheraton Fiji Resort. Naqolo also highlights resilience and mentorship as key components of success for women in leadership roles. This growing narrative among women in tourism reflects a powerful movement of support and empowerment.

Naqila’s experiences not only illustrate her personal evolution but also serve to inspire future generations of women leaders in hospitality. Her story exemplifies how perseverance and empowerment can lead to significant accomplishments while fostering a supportive community.
