The Waibau Women’s Club, established in 2019 and officially registered with the Ministry for Women, is dedicated to supporting the welfare of women and girls in Waibau. Led by Makereta Nofoimuli, the club actively participates in farming initiatives that contribute to household food security and nutritional health.

The club has a total of 11 members who cultivate six different types of crops on their leased land, which they use to enhance their family lives on a daily basis. In addition to their farming, members often receive assistance from their families in managing the crops. The women have been utilizing their land in Naqaraivi, Waibau, to grow both traditional and nutritious foods.

Currently, the women are cultivating several crops including cassava, taro, sweet potatoes, and ginger, and are even expanding their land to grow yaqona, which they hope to harvest within the next two years. They are also working on creating a variety of other vegetables such as amaranth, eggplant, carrots, and okra.

The club expresses gratitude to the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agriculture for their support in these farming ventures. The women meet every week to collaborate on their farming efforts, with a focus on improving their health and nutrition, and increasing their financial stability.

Despite the challenges posed by climate change, the women remain committed to enhancing their agricultural practices and supporting one another. They advocate for women to take charge of their destinies through hard work and effective management within the community, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and initiative.

Overall, the efforts of the Waibau Women’s Club shed light on the resilience and empowerment of women in agriculture. Their progress not only strengthens their households but also sets a hopeful example for future generations in sustainable farming practices and community support.

This article represents a positive movement toward women’s empowerment and community development through agriculture, showcasing how collaborative efforts can lead to improved living conditions and greater economic independence.
