Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: New Grant Program Launches in Fiji

Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) announced the introduction of a new grant program in October aimed at supporting micro, women-led, rural, youth-focused, and indigenous enterprises. This initiative was discussed during the recent Women’s Finance Exchange (WFE) program, which is designed to empower local women entrepreneurs with essential financial skills.

Ramesh Chand, general manager of BAF, emphasized the significance of this program, stating, “This grant is intended to assist our local women entrepreneurs and enhance their business capabilities. We acknowledge the difficulties these entrepreneurs encounter and are dedicated to providing the support they need to prosper.”

During a two-day training session, Mr. Chand applauded the participants for their commitment. “I understand it has been challenging for you to step outside your comfort zone and participate in this workshop. However, it will undoubtedly be rewarding. You have acquired additional knowledge and skills to advance your businesses,” he remarked.

He also underscored the value of ongoing training opportunities. “If there is a demand for further training in areas such as human resource management or leadership, we are here to provide that support. Our objective is to give you the tools necessary to succeed in the business landscape.”

The forthcoming grant program will offer crucial funding to help entrepreneurs transform their ideas into actionable plans, thereby promoting economic development and empowerment within their communities. By focusing on underrepresented groups, this initiative aligns with BAF’s mission to foster a more inclusive business environment in Fiji, in response to the growing interest in women-led enterprises.
