Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A New Era of Business Growth

The Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) has noted a promising trend of women transitioning from informal business activities to formal enterprises, showcasing significant progress in the business landscape. Vera Chute, Chair of WEBC, highlighted this shift, particularly in the micro-enterprise segment, where more women are beginning to carve out their space in the business world.

This development comes despite previous reports from last year’s Women Invigorating the Nation (WIN) Convention indicating that only 19 percent of businesses are owned by women, mainly in micro-businesses. Chute emphasized that the council is dedicated to further nurturing this momentum, particularly by reaching out to grassroots communities to ensure inclusivity for women on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Chute specifically mentioned initiatives aimed at bridging the entrepreneurial gap for women living in rural and maritime regions, with capacity-building programs already being implemented in areas such as Vanualevu and Viti Levu. She expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts, stating that the positive outcomes of their initiatives are becoming evident.

In conjunction with these developments, the upcoming WIN Convention is set to draw over 100 women delegates from various sectors for a two-day event focused on capacity building, networking, and empowerment at the Grand Pacific Hotel. Sharyne Fong, the Chair of the WIN Convention, affirmed that this gathering will serve as a crucial platform for women to collectively assert their standing in the business and financial realms.

This positive atmosphere indicates a forward leap in female entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of continuing support for women in business. The commitment shown by initiatives like those from WEBC reflects an enriching environment that can lead to enhanced economic contributions from women, ultimately benefiting the wider economy.

Together, these developments highlight the growing acknowledgment of women’s pivotal role in driving economic growth, sustainability, and community support. This momentum brings hope for continued advancements in women’s entrepreneurship, showcasing the significance of collaborative efforts to empower women in business.
