For the first time, women from the villages of Nuku, Cakova, Keteira, and Maloku came together at Naroi, Moala, to participate in a Women’s mini-craft show. This event was dedicated to showcasing their handmade products and promoting empowerment among the female population.

Organized by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection, the mini-craft show served as a valuable platform for women to share ideas, acquire new skills, and boost their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. The vendors displayed a variety of items, including traditional Fijian crafts, fine mats, shirts, and even fresh vegetables and root crops. This gathering not only celebrated the rich artistry of Fijian culture but also put the spotlight on the diverse talents and resourcefulness of women in the maritime islands.

Draunidalo, the Principal of Yasayasa Moala College, officiated at the event and expressed deep gratitude for the women’s participation. He stated, “Women are the backbone of our communities, and their contributions extend beyond their homes. Events like these empower them economically and socially, encouraging self-reliance and innovation.”

Kalo Leba, the President of the Maloku Women’s Group, voiced her appreciation for the initiative: “We woke up early, prepared our families, and made our way to Naroi to showcase our handicrafts. For the women of Maloku, we are selling sulu, Jamba, and honey products from our women’s group project,” she remarked.

Unise Vosataki from Vadra highlighted the significance of such events for women in remote areas. She noted, “Some of us can’t afford to travel to Suva during the Women’s National Expo, but today we are grateful to the government for an opportunity to sell our handicrafts.” She emphasized that such platforms help women enhance their entrepreneurial skills and strengthen their networks.

This inaugural event in Naroi demonstrated the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to empowering women in rural and maritime communities. By providing opportunities for women to showcase their talents and generate income, the government is working to promote gender equality and support sustainable community development.

Overall, this event not only reflects a growing movement toward women’s empowerment but also positions the women of Moala as key players in the local economy, fostering hope for future initiatives and collaborations that can uplift rural communities.
