Empowering Women: Boxer Maureen Neumia Calls for More Female Fighters

Boxer Maureen Neumia is encouraging women across the nation to embrace the sport of boxing.

Speaking yesterday, she shared her journey, stating, “I started boxing in 2019, and my husband Fred Chand, who promotes South Pacific Boxing, motivated me to take it up.”

The 37-year-old athlete believes that women can excel in boxing just as they do in other sports. She mentioned that she has trained rigorously for her upcoming match against Amo Wati, scheduled for Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. “I’ve been working really hard, and I hope everything goes as planned in the ring. Training alongside my son has made the process effortless,” she added.

Neumia also invited boxing enthusiasts to attend the event on Saturday, where three International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Asia Pacific titles will be contested.
