In a recent ceremony at the Labasa Civic Centre, Police Constable (PC) Sadamma, along with 37 other officers from the Northern Division, was honored with Long Service and Good Conduct medals by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew. After dedicating 20 years of service to the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma reflected on her journey as a woman in a predominantly male-dominated field.

Having served at various stations including Totogo in Suva and Lautoka, PC Sadamma expressed the challenges faced while balancing her professional responsibilities with her personal life as a mother of three. “It wasn’t easy at first to work in an organisation where it used to be dominated by males, but as time passed by, with the support from my family, I was able to perform my role as a Police officer well,” she said.

Currently assigned to the Sexual Offence Unit, she specializes in cases involving children and women, emphasizing her commitment to aiding vulnerable communities. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she noted. Her time in this role has been fulfilling, as she acknowledged the importance of her work.

PC Sadamma also encouraged young women contemplating a career in law enforcement, urging them to persevere in pursuing their dreams. “Nothing comes easy in life and everyone needs to either work hard or smart to have a good career,” she stated. Her experiences illustrate that a successful balance of professional and personal life is achievable and that dedication can lead to a rewarding career.

The recognition awarded to PC Sadamma and her peers serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment and the evolving role of women in law enforcement. It highlights the importance of resilience, support from family, and the determination to succeed in challenging environments.
