Empowering Women: A Kitchen Revolution in Fiji

The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, visited the Veidehi Women’s Club in the Nabekavu Indian Community, Labasa, to present essential kitchen items aimed at empowering local women and supporting their collective advancement within the community.

This initiative reflects the Coalition Government’s commitment to promoting gender equity, social justice, and sustainable development, with the goal of uplifting women and children throughout Fiji.

During her engagement with the women’s group, Kiran received expressions of gratitude from the members, all of whom benefit from social protection scheme allowances, underscoring the government’s dedication to aiding vulnerable communities.

Kiran emphasized the importance of investing in women, stating, “When we invest in women—whether through kitchenware or broader policies—we create a positive ripple effect. Their economic contributions circulate, benefiting families, neighborhoods, and society at large. As we celebrate this equipment handover, let’s recognize that women’s empowerment isn’t just about the present; it’s an investment in a brighter, more equitable future.”

The Veidehi Women’s Club plays a significant role in the community, serving as a platform for women to gather, share skills, and support one another.
