Women from the villages of Nasoki, Vadra, Keteira, and Cakova in Moala are embracing significant opportunities through a new program focused on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. This initiative is spearheaded by the Women, Children and Social Protection Ministry in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The primary aim of the program is to impart essential skills to women in critical areas such as bookkeeping, marketing, branding, inventory management, and money-saving techniques. The training incorporates group discussions, fostering collaboration among participants, which allows them to exchange insights and learn from one another’s experiences.
Akemi Nagahara, a JICA volunteer, emphasized the program’s vital role, highlighting that financial literacy and effective business management are key to creating sustainable livelihoods. By empowering women to take charge of their financial situations, the program enhances not only their lives but also those of their families.
Jiajiana Vulaono, a participant from Cakova village, shared how the training transformed her approach to starting a small business. She expressed newfound confidence in keeping records and planning for the future, stating, “This knowledge will change how I support my family.”
Additionally, the participants were provided with information on essential social welfare services and support programs that are available to assist them.
The initiative included awareness initiatives led by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Fiji Police, and the Department of Children, all under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection.
This program aligns with the government’s continuous efforts to promote gender equality, empower women in their communities, and combat poverty.
