Four hundred women from various parts of the country are currently participating in this year’s Women’s Expo, being held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, emphasized that March is a month dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements.
Kiran remarked on the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment, stating that these are not only fundamental human rights but also crucial elements that drive equitable economies and contribute to sustainable development.
Earlier initiatives have shown similar commitments to fostering women’s empowerment. For instance, at a recent Women’s mini-craft show in Naroi, Moala, women from several villages gathered to showcase their handmade products. Their efforts highlighted the important role women play in their communities and the contributions they make beyond household duties. This event served as a platform for women to exchange ideas and entrepreneurial skills, showcasing traditional crafts such as sulu and Jamba, alongside fine mats and fresh produce.
Such events reinforce the government’s stance on promoting gender equality and creating opportunities for women to thrive economically. As these gatherings gain momentum, there is a growing hope for enhanced opportunities for women, fostering not just economic independence, but also strong community ties.
This year’s Women’s Expo is expected to celebrate these innovations and harness the collective strength of women across the nation, paving the way for future progress in women’s rights and development.
