Empowering Voices: How a Young Contestant Aims to Combat Domestic Violence

Vinaina Marawa aims to utilize the Miss Nasinu Festival as a platform to inspire discussions and empower women to escape the cycle of violence. The 22-year-old from Kadavu, who has personally witnessed the harmful effects of domestic violence, is enthusiastic about her contributions on stage.

“I saw my mother endure an abusive relationship, and she ultimately left my father because of it,” Ms. Marawa shared. As the eldest of seven siblings, she feels a strong sense of responsibility for her family, which influenced her decision to enter the workforce instead of continuing her education after high school.

Ms. Marawa emphasized that pageantry is not merely a competition among young women; it also fosters connections and friendships during the process. “I aspire to be a role model not only for my siblings but for my community as well,” she stated.

She is one of seven contestants competing for the title of Miss Vodafone Nasinu Festival 2024, with the event scheduled from August 24 to August 31.
