Minister Charan Jeath Singh, responsible for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry, recently distributed Multi-Ethnic Grants totaling $383,900 to 55 communities in the Western Division. This initiative aligns with the Government’s commitment to enhancing inclusivity and social cohesion, as emphasized during the grant handover ceremony held at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka.
Singh highlighted the importance of these grants in fostering unity within diverse communities, stating they aim to promote cultural exchange and understanding. The funds will support a range of projects, including water management, community fencing, the purchase of equipment, musical instruments, and renovations. By empowering community-based organizations, the government aims to enhance their capabilities and ensure their long-term sustainability.
It’s noteworthy that these grant applications were processed with transparency to guarantee fairness, adhering strictly to the Ministry’s Grant Call criteria. Singh stressed that this initiative builds on past efforts to uplift minority groups and reinforces the government’s ongoing commitment to empowering all ethnic communities in Fiji. Similar funding efforts in the past, including a recent $1.5 million allocation to revive community-based organizations after a 14-year hiatus, reflect a sustained focus on inclusivity and support for minority communities.
As these projects are implemented, they hold the potential to strengthen community ties, fostering an environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to Fiji’s growth. This initiative not only addresses immediate developmental needs but also lays the groundwork for a cohesive and vibrant society that embraces diversity.
