Forty-seven students from Nadi have successfully completed a leadership training program aimed at equipping them for leadership roles in their communities. The students, hailing from various schools in Nadi and Sigatoka, took part in a two-day Blue Light leadership training and skills development initiative held at Korovuto College in Nadi.
The program was organized by Blue Light, a registered charity from New Zealand that collaborates with police to provide a variety of youth-oriented programs and activities. Blue Light’s mission is to minimize the chances of young people becoming either offenders or victims of crime while enhancing the relationship between the police, youth, parents, and the broader community.
On Wednesday, the 47 students celebrated their graduation from the program.
During the ceremony, Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa urged the students to take up the mantle of change in their schools and communities. He encouraged them to remember the lessons they learned and emphasized the potential they hold as emerging leaders.
SSP Vaisewa highlighted the concerning issues faced by some of their peers, including drug use, sexual offences, assault, burglary, and theft. He warned them about the dangers of these behaviors and advocated for making wiser choices.
He impressed upon the students the importance of recognizing their own value and capabilities, encouraging them to understand that they were chosen for the program to become agents of change.
