Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) is set to host the inaugural Pacific Fiber Conference 2025 next month at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa on Denarau Island. This unique event, organized in collaboration with the Fiber Network Council Asia Pacific (FNCAP) and the Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA), is aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure across the Pacific region.

Described by TFL as “a landmark step” toward improving fiber connectivity, the conference will focus exclusively on strategies for resilient networking and digital infrastructure development in the Pacific Islands. According to TFL’s chief executive officer, Charles Goundar, this gathering is part of a wider strategic shift in connectivity, moving from traditional undersea cables to innovative last-mile solutions that ensure inclusivity for all communities.

Key topics slated for discussion include fiber and satellite integration, smart island innovations for remote service delivery, and the implementation of advanced technologies such as AI, 5G, cloud computing, and cybersecurity strategies that address the unique challenges of the Pacific region. Goundar emphasized that technology is not just an infrastructure concern but a transformative tool that enriches lives, connects communities, and opens doors to education, healthcare, commerce, and innovation.

Frank Jaffer, the Secretary of FNCAP, referred to the conference as “a catalyst for action,” highlighting the importance of collaboration between regional stakeholders and international tech leaders to formulate secure and sustainable connectivity strategies. Sponsorship interest is already strong, with PITA’s Fred Christopher encouraging companies to take part in this rapidly growing and underserved digital market.

Anticipations are high, with over 200 delegates expected to attend, including telecom leaders, government officials, data center operators, investors, and technology providers from around the globe.

Reflecting on the broader trends in the Pacific, recent initiatives, including significant investments in fiber cable projects across regions like Vanua Levu, show a strong commitment to enhancing digital connectivity and ensuring that remote communities are not left behind in the digital age. These projects aim to provide faster and more reliable internet services that are essential for economic growth and resilience against natural disasters.

As the Pacific region continues to forge ahead with new digital strategies, the upcoming Pacific Fiber Conference stands as a hopeful beacon for the future, pointing toward a more interconnected and technologically empowered Pacific.
