Anju Mangal, Chief of Party for Pacific Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity, emphasized that the program aims to create inclusive economic opportunities. She highlighted the importance of mentorship, noting that participants are paired with industry mentors to help navigate an ever-changing landscape.
Georgina Naigulevu, Tetra Tech’s Director of Inclusion Justice and Transformation, added that long-term success will depend on sustained investment in capacity building. This includes ensuring that the skills learned today lead to meaningful professional growth in the future. Advocates suggest that the Pacific region has great potential to emerge as a hub for remote work, as global companies are increasingly diversifying their workforces and seeking talent in regions like this where digital potential is often untapped.
This initiative aligns with previous efforts to advance women’s representation in technology. For instance, the Women in Tech Fiji Chapter was recently launched, which similarly aims to tackle gender disparity in STEM fields. The government has also introduced measures through the National Digital Strategy 2025-2030 to enhance digital services and ensure that women are included in the technological advancements shaping Fiji’s economy.
