Instilling values in children has become an increasingly complex task for mothers, according to discussions held at a Mother’s Day service at the Centenary Methodist Church in Suva. Ani Naivalu, a member of the women’s fellowship, emphasized the crucial role of mothers not only in the home but also within the community. She urged a reflection on mothers’ responsibilities, which extend beyond domestic duties, asserting that their contributions are essential for the well-being of families and society as a whole.
Mrs. Naivalu pointed out the myriad challenges faced by mothers today, particularly in guiding their children amidst rapid social changes, such as the influence of mobile phones and issues like drug abuse. These modern dilemmas make it increasingly difficult to teach children the true meaning of family values. Nevertheless, she expressed hope that through faith, particularly in Jesus Christ, mothers can exert a powerful positive influence over their families, helping to nurture children along the right path.
This sentiment aligns with recent remarks made by Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, who highlighted the need to honor mothers and the vital roles they play in the family and society. Minister Kiran encouraged the formation of women’s clubs to empower mothers, echoing calls from other officials for a collective effort towards fostering positive societal change. Both Mrs. Naivalu and Minister Kiran stress the importance of respecting and uplifting mothers as a foundational step towards fostering a flourishing community.
In a climate where social challenges are prevalent, the call for a united approach to reinforce family values is crucial. Mothers leading with strength and faith can act as a stabilizing force, fostering resilience in their families amidst the changing world.
