Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga recently visited Levuka and Moturiki to strengthen partnerships and improve service delivery for residents of Lomaiviti Province. His trip was marked by engaging discussions with the Lomaiviti Provincial Council, where Minister Turaga received updates on development plans for 2024. Key strategies were discussed to ensure that these plans provide lasting benefits to local communities.
Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism, and Transport, the team facilitated awareness programs in Levuka Town. These initiatives addressed public inquiries and provided assistance with business registrations and renewals, alongside updates on pending grant applications.
A highlight of Minister Turaga’s visit was the launch of a Births, Deaths, and Marriages (BDM) certificate printing service at the Levuka Post Office. This service aims to enhance access to essential documents for local residents, reflecting a commitment to improving public services.
In Moturiki Island, Minister Turaga held a Talanoa session with Daku Village residents, focusing on government initiatives aimed at empowering them with better access to services and economic opportunities. This visit further solidified the Minister’s dedication to promoting development within the region.
Past outreach efforts by the Ministry of Justice have focused on ensuring that residents of Fiji’s outer islands can access crucial services, with similar initiatives noted in recent months. This includes a dedicated outreach program that has already achieved significant results in neighboring regions.
With continued efforts to expand essential services to more remote areas, Turaga’s visit stands as a proactive step towards enhancing the lives of Lomaiviti residents, showcasing the government’s commitment to community engagement and equitable service delivery. Overall, this represents a hopeful outlook for ongoing development and improvement in the region’s public services.
