Fifty members of cooperatives from Narocake and Muana-i-Ra have recently participated in a training program to enhance their skills in governance, entrepreneurship, record-keeping, and resource sustainability. This initiative was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs, and Communications in collaboration with the International Tropical Timber Organization.

The training aimed to improve participants’ abilities in managing cooperative businesses, focusing on areas such as consumer shop operations, fish pond ventures, and nursery development. In addition to technical skills, the program also fostered teamwork and leadership capabilities among the members, contributing to more cohesive cooperative operations.

The Ministry expressed its commitment to continuously support cooperatives across Fiji, emphasizing their role in driving economic growth and promoting environmental stewardship. This aligns with ongoing efforts to empower local communities through knowledge-sharing and various sustainable, community-driven projects.

This initiative is part of a broader movement seen across Fiji, where cooperative training programs are gaining momentum, as reflected in recent developments in regions like Kabara, Komo, and Namuka-i-Lau. These efforts showcase the potential of cooperatives to strengthen local economies while preserving cultural heritage, thus nurturing both economic and social resilience.

The emphasis on skill development and community collaboration within these cooperatives is a beacon of hope for the future, indicating that with shared efforts, these communities can harness their resources and talents to build a prosperous and sustainable environment.
