More than 60 landowners recently participated in a workshop aimed at enhancing their ability to leverage natural resources and make informed decisions regarding investments. This initiative, organized by the Land Use Division of the Ministry of Land and Mineral Resources, sought to empower attendees in managing their financial ventures effectively.

Marika Tunidavu, the manager of the Land Use Division, emphasized the importance of supporting landowners, stating that their welfare is often overlooked. The workshop was tailored to provide critical insights into investment opportunities and financial management practices.

Key sessions featured industry experts from various investment firms who offered guidance on effective money management strategies, as well as tips on maximizing profits from leased lands. To date, the Land Use Division has successfully issued 98 leases, encompassing a total of 10,000 hectares.

A significant moment during the event was the presentation of a $1.3 million cheque to Radike Qereqeretabua, a former esteemed hotelier. This cheque symbolizes profit-sharing revenue from Kokomo Resort, which operates on land leased from Mr. Qereqeretabua’s Mataqali Natusara. Notably, the resort allocates a share of its yearly revenue to landowners, in addition to lease payments made biannually.

This workshop, which concluded after two days of informative sessions, highlights a proactive approach towards empowering landowners to gain financial literacy and make strategic decisions that could positively impact their livelihoods.

In a broader context, initiatives like this workshop can contribute significantly to community development, enabling landowners to harness their resources responsibly and sustainably, ultimately fostering economic growth and stability in the region.
