In late May, a significant conference was held at the Harbourpoint Convention Centre in Lami, aiming to enhance business opportunities for the iTaukei community on both local and global scales. This event was organized by the Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC) under the leadership of Ulaisi Taoi.
Over the two-day event, various discussions were held, culminating in initiatives designed to further strengthen the council’s operations. A notable outcome was the establishment of an office space for FIBC, which Taoi emphasized as a crucial development. He highlighted that this office will support 91 businesses currently affiliated with the council.
Taoi pointed out that having a dedicated office will significantly facilitate collaboration among members, as meetings could now be conducted in a more organized manner. He mentioned the features of the new office, including a boardroom, training room for educational purposes, secretariat space, and multiple cubicles to aid in day-to-day operations.
The aim of this initiative is not only to provide training in business operations, financial management, and personal development but also to establish a conducive environment for networking and partnerships within the iTaukei business community.
FIBC’s primary goal is to empower the iTaukei people, particularly those eager to initiate or enhance their business endeavors. This initiative promises to offer a clearer pathway for members to navigate the processes necessary to achieve success in their business ventures.
The office’s operations are set to commence in November, with additional plans in place to expand FIBC’s presence in Lautoka, Labasa, and Rakiraki, showcasing a commitment to fostering business growth across various regions.
This development marks a hopeful step toward strengthening the iTaukei business sector, providing valuable resources and support that can lead to increased economic opportunities and successful enterprises within the community.
